Londoners’ lived experiences of poverty post-COVID-19

Date published:

We were commissioned by 4in10, Children England and the Greater London Authority to conduct research to understand the experiences of people with lived experience of poverty in London, how they perceived drivers of poverty to have changed or evolved, the impact of this on their daily lives and how they could imagine a different future.

To do this, we conducted exploration labs and interviews with people from black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds, young people, people with no recourse to public funds, unpaid carers and people who had been put on furlough during the pandemic.

We were supported throughout the process by our co-creation group who all had lived experience of poverty themselves. They were able to advise us on use of language to ensure we were sensitively carrying out the research. The report went towards the London Challenge Poverty Week 2021, and was supported by the Deputy Mayor of London, Debbie Weekes-Bernard. It was also shared on BBC London.
