The Online Gallery

Welcome to Through the Lens: Diversity and Trust in Healthcare, an online photography gallery showcasing the perspectives of young Londoners from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds.

Armed with disposable cameras, participants captured the people, places and experiences that shape their perceptions of trust in healthcare.

Through their photographs and personal stories, the exhibition invites us to see healthcare through different perspectives, spark conversations and explore what it takes to build trust.

The Exhibition

The Through the Lens exhibition took place from 7–10 June 2024 at The Handbag Factory in South London, bringing together participants, CVR Community members and the wider public to celebrate the photography and stories behind the project.

Opening night was an opportunity to recognise the creativity of everyone involved, with over £3,000 in prizes awarded to winning entries selected by a panel of artists and community leaders.

The evening also featured performances from artist Che Lingo and award-winning poet Theresa Lola, alongside good food, great conversations and a celebration of the people who brought the exhibition to life.

About the Research Project

Over the past year few years, we have been exploring the complex dynamics of trust within healthcare systems, learning from diverse communities across the UK who often face significant disparities in health outcomes and access to care.

Through co-creation groups, digital ethnography, surveys, interviews, and other forms of community engagement, we sought to capture the voices, experiences, and perceptions of people from these communities regarding their interactions with healthcare providers and institutions and how trust is formed and maintained.
